LUCKNOW: In a high-stakes clash at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium, India set a low target of 230 runs for defending champions England in their crucial ICC World Cup encounter on Sunday.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, India’s innings saw a mix of resilience and challenges, resulting in a total of 229 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 50 overs.

Skipper Rohit Sharma, leading from the front, showcased his batting prowess, scoring a pivotal 89 runs, while Suryakumar Yadav contributed significantly with 49 runs. The Indian innings, however, faced early setbacks, including the dismissal of star batsman Virat Kohli, who was sent back to the pavilion with a nine-ball duck. Chris Woakes and David Willey were instrumental for England, sharing seven wickets among them and keeping the Indian batting giants in check.

India’s opening pair, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, faced a challenge right from the beginning, with Chris Woakes dismissing Gill for nine in the fourth over. Shreyas Iyer, too, fell early, contributing just four runs before being sent back by Woakes. Despite these challenges, Rohit Sharma’s determined innings and partnerships with other batters allowed India to reach a respectable total.
