LUCKNOW: In a stunning display of cricket, India outclassed defending champions England in a thrilling encounter at Lucknow’s Ekana Sports City, solidifying their unbeaten status in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023 on Sunday.

Bowling first, England’s bowlers kept the pressure on the Indian batters, restricting them to 229 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 50 overs. Captain Rohit Sharma’s resilient 87-run innings, complemented by Surya Kumar Yadav’s crucial 49 runs, bolstered India’s total after a shaky start.

Defending the modest total, India’s bowlers showcased their prowess, dismantling England’s batting lineup. The defending champions struggled against India’s deadly pace attack, with top-order batters Jonny Bairstow, Dawid Malan, Joe Root, and Ben Stokes back in the pavilion early, leaving England reeling at 39-4. A standout performance by Mohammad Shami, who claimed four wickets for 22 runs, and Jasprit Bumrah’s three scalps left England with little room to recover.

The victory marked India’s sixth consecutive win in the tournament, placing them firmly atop the points table and positioning them favorably for a spot in the semi-finals. Meanwhile, defending champions England find themselves on the brink of elimination, having secured only one win in six matches, which came against Bangladesh in Dharamshala.

India’s next challenge awaits against Sri Lanka on November 2 in Mumbai, while England will face off against Australia on November 4 in Ahmedabad.
