DUBAI: The ICC Men’s Test team rankings saw a shift at the summit after the annual update by the ICC, as reigning ICC World Test Championship victors Australia surged past India to seize the coveted No.1 position.
This change came in the wake of the ICC’s recent update, where Pat Cummins’ squad ascended to the pinnacle of five-day cricket, propelled by their remarkable 209-run victory over India in the World Test Championship final at The Oval.
Australia’s stellar performance elevated their rating to 124 points, establishing a four-point lead over their closest competitor, last year’s World Test Championship runners-up, India (120), and boasting a substantial 19-point advantage over third-placed England (105). This alteration marks the sole modification among the Test rankings’ top echelon, with South Africa (103), New Zealand (96), Pakistan (89), Sri Lanka (83), West Indies (82), and Bangladesh (53) retaining their respective positions between fourth and ninth.
Men’s Test Team Rankings
The Men’s Test Team Rankings have been updated to reflect performances from May 2021 onwards. India’s notable 2-1 series win over Australia, led by Virat Kohli in January 2021, falls outside of this period and thus doesn’t factor into the current rankings.
Results between May 2021 and May 2023 carry a 50% weightage, while those in the subsequent 12 months, including Australia’s World Test Championship triumph, are weighted at 100%.
Despite losing their top spot with 122 points, India maintains their leadership in both white-ball formats and extends their advantage in ODI cricket, now standing six rating points ahead of Australia (116).
South Africa, in third place with 112 points, narrows the gap to Australia to just four rating points. Pakistan (106) and New Zealand (101) complete the top five positions.

Sri Lanka, currently in seventh place with 93 rating points, has closed the gap to just two points behind sixth-placed England, who have 95 points. Meanwhile, Bangladesh (86), Afghanistan (80), and West Indies (69) complete the top 10.
India continues to dominate the updated T20I rankings with 264 points, but their lead has narrowed to just seven points. Australia, now in second place with 257 points, has overtaken England, who are in third with 252 points.
