LAHORE, Pakistan: Afghanistan have sealed victory against England by 8 runs following a thrilling fight in the eighth match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 played at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.

Ibrahim Zadran forged 177 runs off 146 deliveries, lacing 12 fours and six maximums as Afghanistan put on their highest-ever total in ICC Men’s ODI tournaments.

According to media reports, Ibrahim Zadran acknowledged Pakistan’s former skipper Younus Khan’s impact on his game, revealing how the cricket great’s advice has helped him refine his batting and mindset.

Before the match, Afghanistan skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi said that his team is committed to take benefit from batting coach Younus Khan’s knowledge to their advantage.

A legend

He said, while addressing the pre-match press conference in Lahore, spoke highly of the former Pakistan captain and hoped that the latter’s familiarity with the conditions in the host country would come in handy for his side.

“Younus Khan is a legend, and we are trying to take benefit from his experience. When he speaks, everyone listens,” the captain said.

He said that Younus Khan has played a lot of cricket in Pakistan, and “He knows these conditions well. We will try to use that knowledge to our advantage,” Shahidi added.

Ahead of ICC Champions Trophy, Younus Khan had joined Afghanistan’s cricket team as mentor.

Most Test hundreds

According to ICC Younis Khan had previously been part of the Afghanistan dressing room in 2022 as a batting coach.

Younus Khan, who represented Pakistan across 265 ODIs, 118 Test matches, and led them to a historic Men’s T20 World Cup triumph in 2009, amassed over 17,000 runs across formats. He still holds the record for most Test hundreds by a Pakistan batter (34).
