DUBAI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has banned Sri Lankan left-arm spinner Praveen Jayawickrama for a year under its Anti-Corruption Code, a statement said.
According to the ICC, the player has been banned from all formats of cricket. It added that Praveen Jayawickrama faces a suspension of six months following he had confessed of breaching Article 2.4.7 of the code which deals with: “Obstructing or delaying any probe that may be carried out by the ACU, including concealing, tampering with, or destroying any documentation or other information that may be related to that probe and/or that may be evidence or may lead to the discovery of evidence of corrupt conduct under the Anti-Corruption Code,”.
The player last represented his country in 2022 following he played five Test, ODIs and T20Is for Sri Lankan. The bowler had claimed 32 wickets in the 15 international matches he played representing the Sri Lankan team.
