QUETTA: A person allegedly shot his 20-year-old wife Amena Bibi dead when she was offering prayer in Quetta on Tuesday.

According to the police, Amena Bibi was found dead at her husband’s maternal uncle’s house on October 2. She was taken by her husband Shahab Khosa to her maternal uncle’s house at Shah Zaman Street in Quetta and then shot and killed her with a 9 mm pistol.

SHO Javed Buzdar told media that Amena’s father Manzoor Ahmad Sarpara has registered a case against his son-in-law, Shahab Khosa in police station Amir Mohammad Dasti. He said that the accused escaped after the incident and is still missing. The police have seized the vehicle of the accused and are making efforts to arrest him.

Parents and family members of the accused have also left the house and gone into hiding, so no further progress could be made in the investigation. “We raised the daughter like a flower, but her cruel husband shot her dead when she was praying.” said Amena’s mother expressing her grief. According to Amena’s elder sister Sahrish, Shahab was Amna’s classmate and friend’s cousin. That friend came to Amena’s home with his proposal. Amena’s family inquired about them and when people didn’t say anything objectionable, they got them married in August last year.

Amena’s sister Sahrish said that they accepted the proposal only on the condition that Amena will continue her studies after marriage, but later her husband did not allow her to go to university. She had left her studies but despite this, her husband used to beat her. Amena was a student of Sardar Bahadur Khan Women’s University. She got admission in BS Honors Education in Sardar Bahadur Khan Women University Quetta. She was a third semester student when she got married. The students of the university had announced to protest against the incident on Monday, but the university administration did not allow the protest within the university premises.

Manzoor Ahmad said that despite passing of 10 days of the incident, the killer has not been arrested and his family has not been questioned. Amna’s sister Sahrish alleges that they were being pressured to opt for a patch up.
