MIRPUR: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter reiterated its appeal to the United Nations on Tuesday, urging decisive actions to resolve the longstanding Kashmir dispute in accordance with the fundamental principle of the right to self-determination, guaranteed by UN resolutions.

As reported by the Kashmir Media Service, this appeal to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres took place during a meeting in Islamabad. A delegation of Hurriyat leaders and activists from Jammu engaged with APHC-AJK Convener Mahmood Ahmad Saghar during the meeting. The delegation included figures such as Malik Muhammad Aslam, Khalid Shabir, Qazi Muhammad Imran, Zahid Fazal, Abdul Ghani Lone, Muhammad Owais Bilal, and Imtiaz Ahmed Butt, with APHC AJK General Secretary Shaikh Abdul Mateen also in attendance.

The delegation emphasized the historical significance of a pivotal resolution passed by the United Nations Commission for Pakistan and India on January 5, 1949. This resolution called for the peaceful settlement of the Kashmir dispute, allowing the Kashmiri people the opportunity to determine their own destiny through a UN-supervised referendum. Regrettably, due to India’s intransigence, the Kashmir conflict remains unresolved despite the Kashmiri people’s unparalleled sacrifices in their struggle for this right over the past seven decades.

Delegation Seeks Support for Kashmir Dispute Resolution

In addition, the delegation provided an update to the APHC convenor on the current human rights situation in the Jammu region, highlighting Indian forces’ acts of atrocity and terrorism. These include actions by personnel from agencies such as NIA, SIA, and VDGs during cordon-and-search operations and house raids.

Furthermore, the delegation vehemently criticized the Modi government’s ban on the Hurriyat organization Democratic Freedom Party, asserting that such underhanded tactics cannot suppress the Kashmiri freedom movement. They also condemned the Israeli atrocities against Palestinians and expressed sorrow over the support provided by international powers to Israel, the occupying force.

Meanwhile, the People’s Political Party (PPP) in Srinagar issued a statement condemning the ban imposed on the Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) by the Government of India. The party deemed this action inhumane and undemocratic, asserting that it blatantly violated international law and the UN Charter.
