MONTREAL: Hundreds of thousands of homes in eastern part of Canada remained without electricity Friday two days following an ice storm killed at least two persons and caused widespread property damage in the area.
Officials said that around over 500,000 houses in Quebec are without power while they have restored electricity to over fifty percent of the customers suffered by the outages.

The officials hoped that they will restore electricity within 200,000 customers soon. Hydro-Quebec spokesperson Regis Tellier said that several homes though will be without power until Sunday. He added that favorable weather conditions should “enhance the restoration of power service”.
Montreal also opened 6 temporary emergency shelters where people without electricity spent the night.
Health authorities in Montreal recorded about 60 reports of carbon monoxide poisoning, following families has utilized indoor grills to keep warm. Officials were still advising locals to stay away from electricity lines.
