LAHORE: In a huge achievement, the Punjab Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on Wednesday claimed to have arrested nine alleged terrorists, including two Daesh commanders, following an intelligence-based operation conducted in various cities of the province.

Daesh commanders – Ameen Ullah and Waqar – were planning to carry out terror activities on sensitive installations when they were arrested in an operation in a border village near Lahore, said CTD officials in a statement.

“The arrested suspects held important positions within the Islamic State group and had completed their plans for an attack on these sensitive installations,” the statement revealed.

The remaining seven detainees were arrested in separate operations carried out in Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Sheikhupura, and Rahim Yar Khan, and they were found to have connections with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

Authorities reported the confiscation of explosive materials, mobile phones, weapons, and a sum of cash from the arrested terrorists.

There were concerns that these terrorist networks were planning to carry out simultaneous attacks in various sensitive cities. Consequently, cases have been filed against the detained terrorists, and investigations are now underway.
