ISLAMABAD: Many votes were not counted towards the results of the elections due to certain reasons. According to media reports, about 1.67 million people’s votes were not counted towards the results of the elections in 2018 elections in Pakistan. The Elections Act, 2017 says votes can be rejected in various cases. According to Section 90 ballot papers that have signature of the presiding officer or signatures of the assistant presiding officer or no official mark are liable to be rejected.

Experts and analysts said that the ECP, political parties and civil society should make efforts to create awareness among the public to avoid such practice on the election day.
