ISLAMABAD: Babar Azam has signed with the Sydney Sixers for the Big Bash League (BBL) season, securing one of the highest salaries in the competition’s history. His contract, which exceeds the Platinum category base price, is valued at nearly PKR 100 million, making Azam one of the highest-paid players in BBL history.

The Platinum category for overseas players has a base price of approximately PKR 77.5 million, reports The Express Tribune.

This will be Azam’s debut in the Big Bash League, and his signing marks a major boost to the Sixers’ championship prospects. The 30-year-old batter brings extensive experience, having scored over 10,000 international runs across all formats. His leadership skills and consistency make him a valuable addition to the team.

The Sixers had the opportunity to pre-sign one overseas player before the official BBL 15 draft on June 19, and they selected Azam from the Platinum category. His contract positions him as one of the top players in the competition.

Azam has been a key figure in T20 and ODI cricket, receiving accolades such as ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year in 2022. His extensive experience in global leagues, including the PSL and CPL, strengthens the Sixers’ chances for the title this season.
