ISTANBUL: Yemen’s Houthis have claimed to target a ship in the Red Sea with a missile and carrying out a drone attack towards Israel in solidarity with besieged Gaza-strip that is facing relentless Israeli bombardment since October 7, Turkish media reported on Tuesday.
Houthis in a statement said they conducted an operation against a commercial vessel identified as MSC UNITED, and launched a number of drones against military targets in southern Israel.
After the attacks the US, claimed that its military forces shot down more than a dozen drones and several missiles fired by Houthis.
The Pentagon’s Central Command in a social media post said that there was no damage to ships in the area or reported injuries.
According to Gaza health ministry at least 20,915 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed in relentless Israeli bombardments since October 7.

In the past 24 hours alone, the health ministry confirmed 241 more deaths and 382 new injuries, underlining the ongoing severity of the situation in the Gaza Strip as Israel intensified its brutal military attacks.
The UN has said that some 1.87 million Palestinians, over 80 percent of Gaza’s population, have left their homes because of the Israeli bombardment of the besieged enclave.
The Israeli raids have almost destroyed entire neighborhoods in northern Gaza. Israeli ground troops have been facing heavy resistance from Hamas fighters in the area.
Houthis say that they are targeting Israel-linked ships across the Red Sea close to the area of the Bab el Mandeb Strait, because of Israeli siege and invasion of Gaza.
