ISLAMABAD: The administrations of two major hospitals in the federal capital have started to take extraordinary precautions to put emergency departments on high alert in the case of an emergency.
According to hospital sources at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and the Federal Government Polyclinic (FGPC), the heads of clinical departments have been ordered to ensure their presence. The shift duty and emergency staff will continue to do their jobs as usual.
Additionally, they have been instructed not to leave the station and to confirm the availability of on-call physicians in accordance with the duty roster created in coordination with the Medical Director’s Office in departments such as General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Orthopedic, OMFS, ENT, Eye, General Medicine, Pediatric Surgery, and Burn Care Centre.
Hospital staff to remain active
Similarly, all health care facility staff, including doctors, nurses, paramedics, and support staff, have been told to remain attentive and watchful in the case of an unexpected unfavorable situation.
They stated that all vehicles or ambulances would be on standby in the health care facility premises to respond to any emergency and make other essential arrangements to meet any adverse circumstance. In their respective shifts, every officer or worker in the emergency room shall be physically present.
The management of both hospitals has made it clear that no leave requests would be considered during the current situation.
It is worth noting that, under the instruction of Minister of National Health Services Abdul Qadir Patel, the heads of PIMS and FGPC hospitals were directed to assure the availability of medical and para-medical staff, as well as essential services, in their respective hospitals around the clock.
The directives were provided in light of the current situation following a bomb blast in Peshawar and the transfer of blast patients to the federal capital’s hospitals.
