Hong Kong Issues No. 8 Typhoon Warning as Typhoon Talim Draws Near

HONG KONG: Under the threat of Typhoon Talim, the Hong Kong Observatory issued Storm Signal or the No. 8 Southeast Gale on Monday morning. This signal will be in effect until 4 p.m. local time.

According to Hong Kong’s meteorological system, the No. 8 signal is the third-highest warning. Winds with blow at speeds of 63 km/h or greater to hit from the southeast. The Hong Kong Stock Exchange has halted trade, numerous flights at the Hong Kong International Airport have been cancelled, many ports have been closed down, and tourist hotspots, including Hong Kong Disneyland, have been closed temporarily.

Typhoon Talim was 270 kilometers southwest of Hong Kong at 1o’clock Monday. It is expected to track roughly 18 kilometers per hour west-northwest towards the Leizhou Peninsula in Guangdong Province. —Xinhua/APP
