ISLAMABAD: The rise in demand for home-cooked meals has fascinated many entrepreneurs; particularly, women to start their own home-based food business which offers hygienic and delicious meals at reasonable prices.
Talking to APP, a home-based cook and baker, Samiya Rasheed said that twin cities are the second home of many professionals and students – whose desire for home-cooked meals makes the food business a success. She said that professionals, as well as those having a little background in the food industry, are exploring business opportunities in home-cooked food business. She said one kilogram of rice serves up to eight persons and bulk purchase offers the opportunity to earn better profits.
Samiya said that food delivery applications have further strengthened the home-based food business as people are increasingly opting for home-cooked meals for hygiene and taste.
“This trend is not only providing women with a source of income but also helping people to get hygienic food”, she said.
This trend has been exploited by entrepreneurs, particularly women, who have started their own setups, which range from small-scale businesses to more established ones that have expanded to cater to a larger customer base.
A home-based food business owner Mumtaz Alam said that he started a tiffin service from a few sectors of Islamabad and expanded his business to various sectors after receiving an overwhelming response. He said that private companies gave a better response as government offices offer subsidized meals at their canteen.
He added that home-cooked food is a more accessible option for people belonging to all walks of life, and its popularity is expected to grow in the future.
Increasing demand for Hygiene
Ashar Mehbood, a job holder from Multan residing in Islamabad, said that people are becoming more health-conscious and they are on the look for ways to eat healthier and more nutritious meals. He said that one of the ways for them to achieve this is by going for home-cooked meals.
He noted that home-cooked meals are not only healthier, but also offer a more personalized experience to customers who can get their meals cooked according to their dietary restrictions or preferences.
