VIENNA: Citizens on the Austrian train running from Bregenz to Vienna have shocked when they listen to a recording of an Adolf Hitler speech play over the train’s loudspeaker system.
According to many passengers on the train, Nazi slogans such as “Hitler” and “Sieg heil” have been heard via the train’s intercom.
Vienna Rabbi Schlomo Hofmeister, who had been on the train, said in a tweet he has been “shocked” after listing to Hitler’s speech played and the train’s failure to stop it immediately, CNN reported.
“Disturbing I felt above all, when passengers began to laugh, when the voice of Hitler and the words “Sieg Heil!” boomed from the loudspeakers and the train did not provide any explanation and reassurance, but all this was ignored!” Hofmeister wrote.
About 25 minutes before arriving in Vienna, Hofmeister said it all started with “strange music, snippets of conversation and laughter which suddenly turned into the Hitler speech played louder and louder,” the Rabbi told CNN.
At initial, he thought it was a mistake, then not a good joke, and “suddenly he felt queasy” because it was unclear whether the public address system and even the entire train was hijacked. Some of the other citizens panicked, others laughed at the embarrassment, he recalled.
A spokesperson for the rail told CNN, “Someone has illegally opened the intercom with the duplicate key and played the Hitler speech over a loudspeaker.”
The spokesperson said that the incident was reported to the police and they are investigating.
