HIROSHIMA: The world witnessed unmatched catastrophe, the Atomic Bomb dropped 78 years ago on the same date and Hiroshima Mayor termed the deterrence a ‘folly’.

August 6 is remembered  in the honour of victims who vaporised in the blast dropped by the Americans in 1945 during the Second World War.

The Mayor of Hiroshima called for abolition of all nuclear arsenal and termed the G7 leaders placing nuclear capabilities as deterrence at fault.

The official gave these views on August 6 as Russia not long ago threatened to use nuclear bomb on a limited scale as it battles with Ukraine.

The world mourns the dead of the tragedy on this day and Prime Minister Fumio Kishida also hails from Hiroshima. The Japanese PM hosted G7 summit in May in his home town and statement issued by the G7 leaders came with a resolve of nuclear disarmament but at the same time as long as they exist they should serve as a deterrence to stop the war.

The time of the impact 8:15 am was marked a peace bell toll and around 50,000 gathered at the memorial including aging survivors observing a moment of silence.

Hiroshima Mayor Kazumi Matsui urged the world leaders while addressing the participants that reality of nuclear threat exists and those who believe it to serve as a deterrence are at fault.

The prime minister Fumio Kishida also attended the event stating the threat from Russia should to be taken into account as the road to peace without nuclear weapons is getting steep.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also shared his support and his remarks read by his representative at the ceremony asked the world leaders to see the city and meet its survivors and others should also come as drums of war are beating again.

Hiroshima turn to rubble on Aug 6, the bomb named ‘Little Boy’ vaporised over 150,000 in an instant and around the same number perished with radiation and injuries after.

Japan surrendered on August 15 but the horror of the atomic bomb remains.
