BEIRUT, Lebanon: Hezbollah, militant group based in Lebanon, claimed responsibility for launching a barrage of Salvo rockets at an Israeli air control base on Tuesday. This action comes as retaliation for Israeli strikes on eastern Lebanon, escalating tensions between the two adversaries.
According to Hezbollah, the rockets were aimed at the “Meron air control base” and were fired from multiple launchers in their possession. The group cited Israel’s initial strikes in eastern Lebanon as the provocation for their response.
Israeli forces had previously conducted airstrikes near the city of Baalbek in Lebanon, resulting in the deaths of two Hezbollah fighters, as reported by security sources. In response to Hezbollah downing one of its drones, Israel targeted Hezbollah’s air defence systems.
This recent exchange of fire is part of ongoing hostilities between Hezbollah and Israel, which intensified after the outbreak of the Gaza war in October. Hezbollah had already launched 60 rockets at an Israeli base in the annexed Golan Heights the day before.
The conflict since October has led to significant casualties on both sides. In Lebanon, at least 284 people have been killed, including Hezbollah fighters and civilians. On the Israeli side, 10 soldiers and six civilians have lost their lives, according to the Israeli army’s reports.
The situation remains volatile as both Hezbollah and Israel continue to engage in military confrontations, raising concerns about the possibility of further escalation and its potential implications for regional stability.
