TEHRAN: Iran’s foreign ministry said on Saturday the path and mission of Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah will continue despite his assassination in an Israeli air strike in Beirut, after a year of cross-border clashes between the two sides.

Nasser Kanani, the ministry’s spokesman, said that the “glorious path of the leader of the resistance” would continue towards the liberation of Quds (Jerusalem).

The Iranian government confirmed the killing of Nasrallah, stating he died alongside other Hezbollah members during a “treacherous Zionist strike” on the southern suburbs of Beirut.

Iranian Vice President Mohammad Javad Zarif expressed his condolences, describing Nasrallah as a “symbol of the fight against oppression.”

Meanwhile, the Imam Reza shrine in Mashhad, Iran, displayed black mourning flags, and large crowds gathered to pay their respects, chanting “Death to Israel” and waving Hezbollah banners.

The latest Israeli strikes in Beirut killed six people and left 91 others wounded, according to Lebanon’s health ministry. This attack is considered the most intense.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei condemned the airstrike, labeling it an Israeli “massacre” and criticizing the “shortsighted” policies of the Israeli government.
