RAWALPINDI: Defence and Martyrs Day is being observed today to pay rich tribute to martyrs and Ghazis and reaffirm resolve to defend the motherland against all threats. It was on this day in 1965 that the Indian forces crossed international border in the darkness of night to attack Pakistan but the nation foiled nefarious and evil designs of the enemy. The day dawned with 31-gun salute at the federal capital and 21-gun salute at provincial capitals. Special prayers were offered in the mosques for the prosperity and progress of the nation, and independence of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) from the cruel clutches of India. Fateha and Quran Khawani are also being held for the martyrs.
Special ceremonies were held at the graves and memorials of troops awarded with Nishan-e-Haider across Pakistan on the occasion of Defence Day, local media reported.
Major Raja Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Nishan-e-Haider
In Kharian, a special ceremony was held at Major Raja Aziz Bhatti Shaheed’s tomb attended by General Officer Commanding 17 Division Kharian, according to official media. A smartly turned-out contingent of Pakistan Army presented a Guard of Honor and laid floral wreaths. Special prayers and Fateha were offered for the elevation of the martyr’s ranks and the country’s security and prosperity.
Major Shabir Sharif Shaheed Nishan-e-Haider
In Lahore, a ceremony was also held at Major Shabir Sharif Shaheed Nishan-e-Haider’s Mausoleum, where Pakistan Army’s contingent presented a guard of honor. On this occasion General Officer Commanding, laid floral wreaths on behalf of the Chief Of Army Staff as well as offered Fateha.
Major Tufail Muhammad Shaheed Nishan-e-Haider
In Borewala, a special ceremony was held at Major Tufail Muhammad Shaheed Nishan-e-Haider’s Mausoleum.
Captain Karnal Sher Khan Shaheed Nishan-e-Haider
In Swabi, a special ceremony was held at Captain Karnal Sher Khan Shaheed’s Mausoleum, where contingent of Pakistan Army presented a guard of honor, and prayers were offered for security and prosperity of the nation.
Hawaldar Lalak Jan Shaheed Nishan-e-Haider
In Ghazar, a special ceremony was organized at Hawaldar Lalak Jan Shaheed Nishan-e-Haider’s tomb. The Martyr’s family and a large number of people from various walks of life attended this prestigious ceremony.
