ISLAMABAD: Higher Education Commission (HEC) has started the third phase of its partnership through the Digital Learning and Skills Enrichment Initiative (DLSEI) with Coursera as part of a commitment to provide Pakistani youth with high skills needed for jobs in the future.
Coursera is a global online learning platform that offers anyone, anywhere access to online courses and degrees from world-class universities and companies. Higher Education Commission (HEC), in 2018, launched Digital Learning and Skills Enrichment Initiative (DLSEI) in partnership with Coursera. The previous two phases of the program witnessed 12,000 learners with an increasing 0.25 million hours of online training. Some popular courses are data analytics, social media marketing, project management, programming, and soft skills like communication, negotiation, public speaking, and presentation.
In the third phase of the Digital Learning and Skills Enrichment Initiative (DLSEI) in 2023, Higher Education Commission (HEC) will fund skill development opportunities for the youth of Pakistan by offering free access to 3,400 guided projects and 5,300 online courses on Coursera across 11 domains to rapidly deploy high-quality human and digital skill training at scale across Pakistan.

In his remarks about the Higher Education Commission-Coursera partnership, Chairman HEC Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed said that the bilateral partnership aims to provide Pakistani Youth with online training to enhance their skills by ensuring maximum opportunity utilization.
HEC, Coursera to gradually strengthen their partnership
He vowed that Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Coursera would gradually strengthen their partnership by building blocks to build upon their achievements. He emphasized that we should work together for a common goal by equipping the youth with relevant skills that will benefit humanity.

Coursera Director of International Governments, Mr. Matt Klein, said that today’s youth are entering a new labor market. Now new skills are in demand. He said that Coursera is honored to partner with Higher Education Commission (HEC) to provide the next generation of Pakistan with the credentials needed to undo their full earning potential in the digital economy and skills.
He further said that it is delightful to see that Higher Education Commission (HEC) is responding to the pressing trends by improving its access to job-relevant education. Coursera is a global online learning platform. Its mission is to provide universal access to world-class learning; It has 110 million registered learners as of September 30, 2022.
