ISLAMABAD: Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC), Dr Mukhtar Ahmed, on Monday announced the launching of induction for the 5th batch of Allama Iqbal Scholarships on Friday (February 24) during the Pakistan Higher Education Expo in Sri Lanka.
He said Sri Lankan students aspiring to study in Pakistan could apply online under the program. He said this during a welcome ceremony held in honor of the Sri Lankan students studying in the universities of Pakistan under Allama Iqbal Scholarships for the students of Sri Lanka.
The gathering was arranged at Governor House, Sindh. Governor Sindh Muhammad Kamran Khan Tessori was the chief guest on occasion.
The Allama Iqbal Scholarships for Sri Lankan students is a component of the Pak-Sri Lanka Higher Education Cooperation Program, executed by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan.
HEC Scholarships for Sr Lankan Students
Speaking on occasion, the Chairman HEC informed the audience that HEC is offering 1,000 scholarships to Sri Lankan students.
He said HEC has already awarded 350 fully-funded scholarships to Sri Lankan students studying in prominent Pakistani universities.
Addressing the gathering, Tessori shed light on the importance of bilateral relations between the two countries. He urged the universities to extend maximum support to international students.
He advised the Sri Lankan students to learn about the Pakistani languages and culture and take back good memories of Pakistan with them.
Sri Lankan Consul General to Pakistan thanked the Government of Pakistan for strongly supporting Sri Lankan students.
He appreciated the Government of Pakistan’s efforts to maintain Buddhist and Gandhara civilizations. He also emphasized the salient features of bilateral friendly relations between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
