ISLAMABAD: The Higher Education Commission (HEC), on a regular basis, performs quality assurance reviews, and until now, 133 universities across Pakistan have been reviewed on standards set forth by the Higher Education Commission (HEC).
As per the official sources, by ordinance, the Higher Education Commission was empowered to cause an evaluation of the performance of educational institutions. The HEC’s Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) was tasked with launching a number of initiatives to ensure the basic standards of quality across higher education institutions (HEls) around the country.
QAA-HEC
One of the main pillars of QAA-HEC Pakistan was Institutional Performance Evaluation (IPE), which served to uphold standards, offer a forum for improvement, and promote a culture of quality throughout Pakistan’s higher education system.
IPE was a holistic evaluation programme that provided a platform for an institution-wide review of the HEIs. It was a Peer Review Process aimed at improving the overall institutional quality. IPE consists of 11 standards used to review the effectiveness of learning and teaching and overall institutional development.
The standards include a mission statement and goals planning and evaluation, organization and governance, integrity, faculty, students, institutional resources, academic programmes and curricula, public disclosure and transparency, assessment & quality assurance, and student support service. IPE review was a five-year cyclical activity to evaluate institutional performance on the above-mentioned standards.
