ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Higher Education Commission (HEC) has announced undergraduate scholarships for Balochistan and the erstwhile Federally Administered Tribal Area (FATA).
The HEC said that outstanding students who wish to pursue undergraduate courses at public and private universities or degree-awarding institutions in Pakistan could apply for the scholarship.
The HEC said that under the project titled “Provision of Higher Education Opportunities for the Students of Balochistan and erstwhile FATA (Phase-III) Batch-I,” scholarships were being offered for the academic year 2022–2023 in all fields of study and subjects.
Eligibility Criteria for Scholarships
According to the eligibility criteria, the applicants must possess a current Balochistan/ FATA domicile/local certificate duly attested by their respective district administrations. The applicants’ maximum age must be 22 years till the closing date. For the scholarship programme, candidates must have completed 12 years of education with at least 60 per cent marks in the intermediate.
According to the HEC, those who have previously received other HEC/government scholarships were not eligible to apply. Before the closing date, the applicants must have obtained the necessary academic credentials. Students who were waiting for results were not eligible to apply.
The scholarships will be awarded on merit and according to the district quota, the HEC said adding that the candidates will be selected based on their academic credentials and results from the HEC-conducted aptitude test. Candidates must receive at least 50 per cent in the aptitude test.
For applicants from Balochistan and the formerly FATA, the ratio for reserved seats and scholarships is 50/50. Placements on reserved seats will be made based on merit among the chosen students. The minimum eligibility requirements/rules and regulations of PM&DC/PMC shall apply. Those already enrolled in engineering programmes, medical and dental schools, or both will not be given preference for reserved seats but could be offered scholarships based on merit.
Applicants already enrolled in a bachelor programme could also apply for the scholarships. Candidates have been asked to visit the HEC website to complete the online form.
