NEW YORK: Heavy rains have caused severe flash flooding across New York forcing road closures and disrupting subway services, Western media reported on Friday.
The governor of New York has declared an emergency state because of the flash flooding in the city.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul termed the floods life-threatening adding the state of emergency was declared in Long Island and the Hudson Valley as well.
Situation in the city life-threatening
Hochul told the media that the situation in the city is a life-threatening event warning all New Yorker citizens to take all precautionary measures to keep them safe.
The water flooded the subways and railway network of the city putting a halt to the public transport services. According to the Metropolitan Transportation Agency, many subway lines were suspended and many stations were closed.
Roads were flooded in Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Hoboken and New Jersey causing huge traffic jams.
Flooding also hit LaGuardia airport in New York disrupting flight operations. The Terminal A of the airport had to be closed due to flooding.
According to the National Weather Service, more rain is expected in the coming hours.
