MADRID: Spanish industry association Sedigas announced on Thursday that the country had to resort to all available plants of gas in order to cope with the increasing power demand triggered by the heatwave in recent days.
Heatwave: Spain Activates All Its Power Plants to Cope Electricity Demand
According to Reuters, Spain, like many other countries, has been hammered by a heatwave. As people turned to air conditioning to deal high temperatures, power demand went up.
Sedigas said when these power plants generated about 30 percent of the overall electricity, “the system operator had to resort to all available gas production houses to meet the demand,”.

Between June 1 and July 19, gas plants generated about 22 percent of the electricity in Spain, Sedigas added. In 2022, these gas pants produced about a fourth of the electricity.
El Corte Inglés, a firm in Spain, said this week that sales of air conditions had jumped due to heatwave in the country.
