PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Health Minister Qasim Ali Shah on Wednesday directed provincial commissioners to implement necessary measures aimed at curbing the spread of Congo fever ahead of Eid ul-Azha.

The risk of transmission of the Congo virus from animals to humans is high during Eid ul-Azha due to animal slaughter and trade.

The health minister emphasized protective measures including deploying all available resources to prevent Congo fever transmission, including the widespread use of insecticides and disinfectants at animal market entrances. Failure to comply with these measures will result in the sealing of non-compliant markets. Furthermore, visitors to animal markets are mandated to wear protective gloves.

The minister stressed the critical role of insecticides and disinfectants in market settings and urged individuals to exercise caution during animal slaughter, advocating for the use of gloves and other protective gear, as Congo fever can be contracted through contact with infected animal blood.
