ISLAMABAD: A health expert on Sunday expressed his grave concerns over the increasing number of monsoon-related diseases and suggested that people need to stay active and not consume unhealthy foods like excessive fried, frozen, and street food stuff during the monsoon.

Dr Azhar Mahmood Kayani, a renowned Cardiologist, talking to the state news channel, said that most people eat a lot of junk and oily food during the rain for fun, which are the main factors in contracting such monsoon ailments.

He said that people need to be aware of the dangers associated with rain-related ailments.

He added that people must take care of themselves by ensuring cleanliness, eating healthy and fresh food, and drinking filtered or boiled water.

He further said that a number of cases of seasonal ailments such as malaria, typhoid, viral fever, and acute diarrhea have been reported in the last few days.

He said that regular exercise at home and healthy eating habits may help people stay fit and healthy during the rainy season.

Food Storage

Dr Kayani suggested that during the monsoon season, it was not advisable to store food for a long time.

Answering a question about diabetic and heart patients due to obesity, Dr Kayani said that excessive sugar consumption, unhealthy food options, and lack of physical activities are the major causes of these issues.
