Health Expert Stresses Healthy Lifestyle to Avoid Heart Diseases

ISLAMABAD: In response to the alarming rise in coronary artery disease (CAD) globally, including in Pakistan, a prominent health expert has underscored the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle to prevent heart-related deaths.

Cardiologist Major General (retd) Azhar Mehmood Kayani, speaking to PTV news channel, emphasized the significance of regular exercise, routine heart check-ups, and weight management in averting cardiovascular diseases. He urged the public to prioritize these measures to reduce the risk of heart attacks.

Dr. Kayani highlighted the critical need for raising awareness about cardiovascular diseases and their prevention, attributing laziness and sedentary habits to the root causes of heart disease. He emphasized that leading a healthy lifestyle and engaging in physical activity are essential for protecting oneself from cardiac ailments.

Significance of Healthy Lifestyle

Identifying diabetes, hypertension, smoking, and an inactive lifestyle as major contributors to heart attacks, Dr. Kayani stressed the need to address these risk factors proactively. He also pointed out the detrimental impact of obesity, citing it as a primary driver of various diseases, including hypertension, diabetes, and cardiovascular conditions.

Furthermore, Dr. Kayani noted the global prevalence of cardiovascular diseases across income brackets, highlighting the challenges faced by low and middle-income countries in combating this disease burden due to inadequate healthcare resources.
