LAHORE: Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi said on Monday that he has given ‘free hand’ to police to establish the rule of law in the province.
Speaking at a press conference in Lahore, the chief minister said that he had earlier asked the law enforcement agencies to hold back but will not do so anymore.
Naqvi vowed not to spare those violating the law and reiterated that he stood by the police.
JIT to probe recent incidents: CM
The caretaker CM said a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) will be established to probe the incidents that occurred in the last five to seven days.
He added the police force was directed to retreat to avoid bloodshed.
He claimed that terrorists had been residing at the Zaman Park residence of former prime minister Imran Khan.
Addressing the media personnel in a rather aggressive tone, Naqvi said that the police would not show leniency now. “It cannot happen that the police provide security and get knocked around too,” he added. “The police may be unable to provide security if they are being subjected to a barrage of profanities,” he maintained.
