WASHINGTON, USA: Kamala Harris, the U.S. vice president and Democratic candidate, expressed confidence that America is ready to elect its first female president.
In an interview with NBC, she emphasized her candidacy as a way to “turn the page” for a nation tired of Donald Trump’s leadership, stating that voters are “exhausted” by his self-centered approach. As the election draws near, both Harris and Trump are campaigning heavily in swing states. Harris, 60, faces a closely contested race, with polls showing the candidates in a near tie.
In contrast, Trump, during a rally in North Carolina, criticized Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz, and painted the election as a choice between “four more years of incompetence” or a brighter future under his leadership. Trump continues to cast doubt on the election process, raising concerns about potential unrest if he refuses to concede a loss, as he did in 2020.
Harris’s campaign has focused on presenting a calm and forward-looking alternative, leveraging the support of popular Democratic figures like Barack and Michelle Obama. Meanwhile, Trump has amplified conspiracy theories and emphasized his “extreme power” as president, especially regarding immigration issues.
With early voting underway, and about 18 million Americans having already cast their ballots, the outcome remains uncertain. The election will make history regardless of the result: either Harris will become the first woman president, or Trump could become the first convicted felon to win the White House.
As the race intensifies, both candidates aim to sway undecided voters, with Harris positioning herself as a unifying figure against Trump’s divisive rhetoric.
