VANCOUVER: The President of the Council of Khalistan, Dr. Bakhshish Singh Sandhu, has said that the assassination of Canadian citizen Hardeep Singh Nijjar has galvanized unwavering support for Khalistan’s independence within the Sikh community.
Dr. Bakhshish Singh Sandhu announced that the Sikh community is prepared to make history by casting a substantial number of votes in the Khalistan Referendum scheduled for Sunday (Tomorrow) at the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara.
Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a 45-year-old, was tragically shot and killed outside by the Indian secret agencies in the same temple in Surrey, a suburb of Vancouver with a significant Sikh population, where the second phase of the referendum is planned.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, during his address to the Canadian parliament last month, had confirmed the involvement of the Indian secret agencies in the Nijjar assassination.
Furthermore, prominent nations, including the USA, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, have held India responsible for Nijjar’s murder and have called for India to be held accountable.
Dr. Sandhu added that India’s actions constitute a breach of Canada’s sovereignty and independence by targeting and intimidating Canadian nationals.
The Sikh leader pointed out that the international community may have previously doubted Sikh claims regarding India’s involvement in their genocide, but the statement by the Canadian prime minister has validated their assertions.
Prominent world powers have endorsed the notion of a democratic referendum, acknowledging that Sikhs are engaged in a legitimate campaign for Punjab’s independence and the establishment of a separate Sikh homeland.
Expecting 100,000 Sikh Votes
Avtar Singh Pannu, the Coordinator of Sikhs for Justice, revealed that agents of Indian secret agencies fired 50 bullets at Nijjar in an attempt to thwart his efforts to organize the Khalistan Referendum in Canada.
Nijjar was an advocate for a Sikh homeland in Punjab, and just moments before his tragic killing, he delivered his final speech, encouraging the community to come forward and vote in support of independence.
Previously, on September 10, approximately 135,000 votes were cast in favor of the referendum at the same location, with several thousand individuals unable to vote due to the voting time limit.
It is now anticipated that more than 100,000 Sikhs will participate in the referendum at the Shaheed Nijjar Center.
Honoring Hardeep Singh Nijjar’s Memory
Meanwhile, Bhupinder Singh Hothi, General Secretary of Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara, has urged members of the Sikh community to turn out in large numbers to cast their votes in memory of Shaheed Nijjar.
He emphasized that India’s attempt to intimidate Sikhs by killing Nijjar has backfired, revealing India as a state that supports terrorism and disregards international law.
The Khalistan Referendum voting campaign is being conducted under the oversight of the independent Punjab Referendum Commission (PRC), which will announce the results when all phases are completed. Voting commenced on October 31, 2021, in London and has since been held in various cities across Europe, Australia, and Canada.
