CAIRO, Egypt: Hamas announced on Wednesday its willingness to implement an “immediate” ceasefire with Israel in Gaza, based on a prior U.S. proposal, without introducing new conditions from any party.

The statement came after Hamas negotiators, led by senior official Khalil al-Hayya, met with mediators including Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and Egypt’s intelligence chief Abbas Kamel in Doha to discuss the ongoing conflict.

Despite these discussions, no agreement has been reached to end the conflict, which has been ongoing for nearly 11 months.

Disputes over issues like the control of the Philadelphi corridor, a narrow strip on Gaza’s border with Egypt, remain unresolved.

Meanwhile, CIA Director William Burns has indicated that a more detailed ceasefire proposal could be presented in the coming days. The conflict escalated after Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, leading to widespread casualties and a continuing humanitarian crisis in Gaza with over 40,000 killed mostly women and children.
