BEIRUT, Lebanon: On Monday, Hamas confirmed that Fatah Sharif Abu al-Amine, the group’s leader in Lebanon, was killed in an air strike targeting his home in the Al-Bass Palestinian refugee camp near Tyre, southern Lebanon.

The attack also claimed the lives of his wife, son, and daughter. The militant group condemned the killing as a “terrorist and criminal assassination.”

This incident marks the first reported air strike on the Al-Bass camp, according to Lebanon’s National News Agency. The strike followed another attack earlier in the day in Beirut’s Kola district, which killed three members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP).

Israel has been involved in multiple strikes targeting Hamas officials in Lebanon since the Gaza conflict began nearly a year ago. Previous strikes have killed senior Hamas figures, including commander Samer al-Hajj in August and deputy leader Saleh al-Aruri in January.

The Al-Bass camp is one of many Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon, where, by agreement, the Lebanese army does not operate, leaving security to Palestinian factions.
