DOHA: Palestinian Group Hamas on Friday accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of telling “blatant lies” in his speech to the UN General Assembly.
Netanyahu “continued his series of blatant lies and escalated his threats against the peoples of the region, while… expanding his circle of crimes to include our people in Lebanon”, a statement from the Palestinian group said.
The statement said Netanyahu “insists on expanding aggression against the peoples of the region and continuing his brutal crimes, backed by a criminal US policy that provides political and military cover for these crimes”.
Delegates from Lebanon, Iran, the Palestinians and others exited the UN room as Netanyahu started his speech.
Israel’s war on Gaza, now in its 357th day, has so far killed at least 41,534 Palestinians and wounded more than 96,000. While over 700 people have been killed since September 23 in Israel’s extensive bombing across Lebanon.
In recent days, Israel has turned its attention to the border with Lebanon, where it is targeting Hezbollah and has inflicted civilian casualties as well.
Late Wednesday, the United States, France and other allies jointly called for a 21-day ceasefire “immediate” to allow talks as fears grow about the violent escalation in recent days.
According to the United Nations over 90,000 people have been displaced by five days of Israeli strikes on Lebanon.
