GAZA CITY: Ismail Haniyeh, the leader of the Palestinian resistance group Hamas, accused Israel of committing “war crimes” amidst the ongoing Israeli airstrikes on Gaza.
In a letter addressed to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and posted on the Hamas website, Haniyeh condemned Israeli actions, describing them as atrocities that violate international law.
According to Haniyeh, Israel’s military operations, which have resulted in the martyrdom of more than 2,200 people, mostly civilians, in Gaza, constitute war crimes. He specifically criticized the Israeli blockade, highlighting the severe restrictions on essential supplies, including food, water, and medical aid, imposed on Gaza. Haniyeh called for urgent international intervention to pressure Israel into allowing humanitarian aid and medical supplies into the Gaza Strip.
Israel has maintained its stance to destroy Hamas, launching strikes on Gaza and implementing a siege that has exacerbated the humanitarian crisis in the region. The Israeli army has also warned of a possible ground invasion to target Hamas and its infrastructure.
Hamas Asks Humanitarian Organizations to Support Gaza
In response to the dire situation, Hamas urged humanitarian organizations to provide support to Gaza’s overwhelmed hospitals and expedite the delivery of critical medical supplies. The conflict has placed immense strain on the region’s healthcare facilities, necessitating urgent assistance to cope with the escalating number of casualties.
Israeli army spokesman Jonathan Conricus indicated that Israeli forces were preparing for “additional significant combat operations,” underscoring the gravity of the situation.
