PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti: Haitian authorities took into custody Joseph Felix Badio, a former justice official allegedly involved in the conspiracy to assassinate then-President Jovenel Moise in 2021, according to an eyewitness who spoke to news agency.
Several police officers, armed with rifles, intercepted Badio as he exited a supermarket parking lot in Petion-Ville, a suburb of Port-au-Prince, on a Thursday afternoon, as reported by the witness.
This arrest has also been covered by local media outlets.
Haitian officials had accused Badio of playing a pivotal role in the assassination of Moise, an event that plunged the Caribbean nation into political turmoil, leaving it without an elected leader and allowing criminal gangs to gain increasing influence.
