ISLAMABAD: The Chinese company Litong Food has selected Guard Agricultural Research and Services (GARS) under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor framework for the import of red chili cultivated in Pakistan with the collaboration of China on a buyback policy.
GARS CEO Shahzad Ali Malik that the selection was made in the wake of a recent memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the protocol of phytosanitary inked in Islamabad during a three-day visit of the Chinese Vice Premier.
He said that the company was selected after complete scrutiny for the import of red chili. After successfully promoting hybrid rice sowing in the country, which brought prosperity to the farmers and increased the crop size, the firm would join hands with another Chinese food company Litong Food (LF) to encourage high-yielding hybrid chilies’ cultivation in interior Sindh and south Punjab.
Pakistan’s Exports to China Under CPEC
He said that firms would ink an agreement of technical collaboration on hybrid chili and export to China under CPEC in the next international food and agriculture expo being organized in Karachi from 10 to 12 August, where Guard is exhibiting along with Longping and Litong Food.
He further said that hybrid chili seed would be provided by Peppara Seeds China (PSC) along with technical assistance for dried chili’s commercial cultivation and buyback for export to China.
Malik said that collaboration between Pakistan and China in the agricultural field, especially in the development of new kinds of hybrid seeds in the private sector, has considerable benefits for both nations.
He added that hybrid chili gives 3 picking per sowing and production of six hundred maunds per acre in contrast to traditional kinds, which give only two hundred maunds per acre.
