MAIDUGURI: Police said on Saturday that as many as seven worshippers were killed in an attack on a mosque by armed men in Nigeria. Reuters reported that the attack took place in northwest Kaduna state of Nigeria.
Armed men kill 7 in Nigeria
The assault, in the remote Saya village, took place late on Friday as worshippers assembled for prayer, Kaduna police spokesperson Mansur Haruna said by phone. He said that two wounded during the assaults were shifted to hospital for medical treatment.

A villager, Haruna Ismail, told the media by phone: “5 persons were shot in the mosque while praying and the other 2 were shot within the village community.”
Armed groups have wreaked havoc in northwest areas of Nigeria during the last five years. These groups had abducted thousands and killed hundreds in the region.
The assaults have confounded Nigeria’s security troops which are overstretched fighting a 14-year insurgency in the region.
