RIYADH: Saudi Arabia, represented by the National Centre for e-Learning, hosted the 24th meeting of the Committee of e-Learning Officials in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

The meeting, held on 6 November, was attended by the Director of Education at the GCC and included deans and e-learning officials from higher education institutions across the GCC, as well as a number of experts in digital education and artificial intelligence, Arab News reported on Thursday.

Its purpose was to strengthen Gulf cooperation in developing e-learning and to promote the exchange of expertise in digital transformation and educational AI.

The initiative supports GCC countries’ efforts to create innovative educational systems that meet the demands of the future.

Key topics discussed included strategic trends in AI, its governance in education, and its practical application in designing effective learning environments.

Participants also reviewed the experiences of Saudi and other Gulf universities and examined regulatory frameworks and policies that encourage the responsible use of modern technologies in education.

The meeting emphasised the importance of continued joint action across the Gulf to keep pace with global developments and the rapid evolution of e-learning.

The committee approved final recommendations concerning the adoption of AI — proposed by the National Centre for e-Learning — as a reference model aligned with the committee’s strategies.

The development of a unified Gulf language model to contribute to e-learning and AI systems in higher education was also proposed.
