Grenade Attack on Police Vehicle Claims One Life, Injure 22 in Northwest Pakistan

PESHAWAR: One person was killed, and twenty-two people, including two police officials, were injured in a grenade attack on a police vehicle and followed by an exchange of fire between the terrorists and Police in the Tank on Friday.

According to a police spokesperson, two motorcyclists hurled a hand grenade into the van of Inspector Sharif Ullah Kundi.

As a result, two police personnel Afnan and Jameel and twenty civilians sustained wounds; however, Inspector Sharif Ullah Kundi remained unhurt while the terrorist escaped from the site. The rider-squad of the police followed the terrorists and an exchange of fire happened in the Golden Market area between the police and the terrorists. In the fire exchange, one terrorist was identified as Umair son of Hanif Khan resident of Kirri Haider was also killed while his accomplice managed to escape. A passerby resident of Peeran Kot also got wounded and later succumbed to his injuries. The wounded and the dead body were shifted to the District Headquarters hospital Tank by the rescue teams.

Later, the seriously wounded constable Jameel was shifted to DHQ Hospital Dera Ismail Khan. After the incident, a heavy contingent of police personnel led by senior officials reached the site and started a search operation.

Later, District Police Officer Waqar Ahmed along with officers of security forces and Tank police visited the hospital to enquire about the health of all wounded.
