MONITORING DESK
ISLAMABAD: According to Greece’s Minister of Citizen Protection, Athens plans to construct a 140-kilometer-long steel wall along with Meric River. The wall being built will be along the border with Turkiye.
The minister, Takis Theodorikakos speaking to Greek media, stated that the project deters migrant crossings.
This development comes after Greece, in December, announced its intention to deploy 250 police officials to undertake surveillance measure and patrol near the Meric region along the border with Turkiye.
Last Tuesday, the National Defense Ministry of Turkey provided evidence of Greek forces pushing irregular migrants back into Turkiye’s territorial water.
The evidence that was provided was footage recorded by a Turkish naval drone. The actions taken by the Greek forces are illegal.
