ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the appointment of Grant Bradburn as the head coach of their men’s team for the upcoming limited-overs series against New Zealand. The decision comes after the previous head coach, Saqlain Mushtaq’s term ended in February.
Bradburn, 56, is a former New Zealand cricketer who played seven Tests and 11 one-day internationals before taking up coaching.
He was previously the head coach of Scotland and also worked with Pakistan as the fielding coach between 2018 and 2020.
The PCB also announced that Andrew Puttick of South Africa would join the staff as batting coach.
The recruitment process for the team management beyond the New Zealand tour is ongoing, according to a statement by the board.
Abdul Rahman temporarily filled the head coach position for the three Twenty20s against Afghanistan last month.
Grant Bradburn to assume charge for New Zealand series
However, Bradburn will now take over the role for the New Zealand series.
According to local media reports, former Pakistan head coach Mickey Arthur is also set to return to the team as the team director after the New Zealand series.
Pakistan will host New Zealand for five T20s starting April 14, followed by five one-day internationals.
The team management will have their work cut out for them, as Pakistan’s recent form has been inconsistent, with losses in their last two T20 series against South Africa and England.
With Bradburn’s experience in coaching and Puttick’s expertise in batting, the PCB is hopeful that the new coaching staff will be able to turn things around and guide the team to success in the upcoming series.
