ISLAMABAD: Dr. Shahzad Baig, the National Coordinator for the Polio Program Pakistan, affirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to achieving a polio-free status for the country through comprehensive vaccination efforts targeting every child nationwide.
In an interview with a private news channel, he underscored the significance of the ongoing polio eradication campaign as a pivotal component of the government’s broader public health initiatives.
Dr. Baig called on parents to help polio teams administer polio drops to their kids, stressing that government, public, and foreign partners working together is essential to achieving the goal of a safer, healthier, and polio-free Pakistan for coming generations.
He said that the Health Ministry had launched the second nationwide polio vaccination campaign of the year, aiming to immunize over 45.8 million children under the age of five by March 9.
He maintained that the rigorous efforts in high-risk areas such as Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Quetta, Chaman, and Peshawar, where environmental samples are closely monitored.
Furthermore, Dr. Baig highlighted the collaborative efforts between Pakistan and Afghanistan in tackling the poliovirus, urging citizens to cooperate with polio teams to ensure the success of the ongoing vaccination drive. —APP
