Govt to Prepare National Plan for Climate Resilient Infrastructure

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed to prepare a national plan to build climate-resilient houses and infrastructure.

Chairing the first meeting of the Climate Change Council, he directed to constitute a committee of experts to prepare a comprehensive plan. He said measures should be proposed to build adaptation to climate. The Prime Minister said a framework of coordination between the federation and provincial governments should be prepared on a permanent basis in order to timely respond to climate-related issues.

The Prime Minister said we will not forget the devastation caused by floods in the country. He said apart from the rehabilitation of the affected population, we have to prepare for the future.  He said the council should play a central role regarding climate change. The focus should also be on identifying the threats, the availability of resources, and improving the capability of damage assessment.

Shehbaz Sharif said concrete steps be taken to better prepare our people and administration to deal with climate change. He said we will also have to save the country from severe drought.
