ISLAMABAD: Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives stated that Pakistan is an agricultural country whose development and prosperity are dependent on agriculture.
He spoke to participants on Friday at Narowal Public School about modern methods of paddy cultivation, modern techniques of storage, and rice export as part of the Department of Agriculture’s Jashan-e-Baharan Festival 2023.
Ahsan Iqbal stated that the role of farmers in strengthening the agriculture sector could not be overlooked and that the agriculture sector would soon meet deficits and stand on its own so that maximum foreign exchange could be earned through export.
He stated that they will be self-sufficient in agriculture very soon and that the government is taking concrete steps in this direction.
Agriculture must be increased through science and technology
According to Ahsan Iqbal, agriculture must be increased via science and technology in order to bring about a revolution in the agriculture sector for which new technology must be adopted.
He went on to say that there is an urgent need to implement modern methods at present and that we must commit to working together to deal with the country’s economic crisis. He stated that Narowal’s Basmati rice had become an identity for the country and that foreign exchange could be earned by exporting the best quality to the rest of the world.
Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ashraf was appreciated by Ahsan Iqbal for organizing the Jashan-e-Baharan festival. Earlier, the deputy commissioner briefed the federal minister on agricultural plans in the district.
Later, the minister inspected the agriculture department’s stalls.
The seminar was attended by Director Agriculture Javed Iqbal, DD Agriculture Tanveer Ahmad Talta, Khawaja Waseem Butt, Bilal Akbar, Rana Manan, exporters, and farmers.
