ISLAMABAD: The federal government of Pakistan has extended the tenure of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) Management Committee with effect from April 22, following a recommendation by the Ministry of Inter Provincial Coordination’s Sports Wing.
The committee was formed under the supervision of Najam Sethi in December 2022 to run the affairs of the cricket board after former PCB chief Ramiz Raja was removed from the post.
The tenure of the committee expired on April 21, 2023, and the ministry has now recommended an extension of two to four weeks. In a letter, the ministry has directed PCB to submit a comprehensive report of activities carried out under the supervision of the Management Committee since the revival of PCB’s Constitution 2014 from 22.12.2022 to 20.04.2023.
Controversies in PCB
The decision to extend the tenure of the committee comes amid ongoing controversies and allegations of mismanagement in the PCB. The committee was tasked with overseeing the day-to-day operations of the board and implementing reforms to improve its governance structure.
The PCB has been facing numerous challenges in recent years, including financial mismanagement, disputes with players, and criticism over the performance of the national team. The management committee was formed to address these issues and bring much-needed stability to the board.
With the extension of its tenure, the committee will continue to oversee the operations of the PCB for the next few weeks. It remains to be seen what measures the committee will take to address the challenges facing the board and ensure its long-term sustainability. The comprehensive report to be submitted by the PCB will shed further light on the progress made so far under the committee’s supervision.
