Staff Report

PESHAWAR: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Governor Haji Ghulam Ali on Wednesday signed the advice for the dissolution of the provincial assembly sent to him by Chief Minister (CM) Mahmood Khan a day ago.

Governor Haji Ghulam Ali confirmed that he signed the advice sent by the CM. “I, Haji Ghulam Ali, Governor of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, using the clause (1) of Article 112 of the Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan, 1973, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa provincial assembly was dissolved, with immediate effect. The provincial cabinet also stands dissolved,” the governor wrote in a letter sent to CM Mahmood and Akram Khan Durrani, Leader of the Opposition in the outgoing assembly.

Punjab Assembly

Over the weekend, the Punjab Assembly (PA) stood dissolved as Punjab Governor Balighur Rehman excused himself from the process, saying he could not become a part of the move. It is important to note that, unlike his Punjab counterpart, who didn’t sign CM Parvez Elahi’s advice, Governor Ghulam Ali moved swiftly and dissolved the provincial legislature.
