QUETTA: On the advice of Chief Minister Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo, the Governor of Balochistan province, Malik Abdul Wali Kakar, has dissolved the Balochistan Assembly.

This marks the final assembly to be dissolved as part of holding simultaneous general elections in the country. Sindh province’s assembly was dissolved yesterday, while Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies were dissolved back in January.

Earlier today, Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo signed a summary for the provincial assembly’s dissolution, forwarding it to the Governor of Balochistan for approval.

Meanwhile, three contenders have emerged within the ruling Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) for the role of caretaker chief minister. Kehda Babar, Ejaz Sanjrani, and Naseer Bizenjo are all vying for this significant responsibility.

Talks for Caretaker CM in Balochistan

However, the impasse between opposition factions has further complicated matters. Both parties are steadfastly advocating for their preferred candidates to lead the caretaker government in Balochistan. Notable names put forward include Mir Hamal Kalmati from the Balochistan National Party (BNP), and Usman Badini and Shabbir Mengal from the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI).

As anticipation builds, the province awaits a decision in this critical juncture, expected later this evening. Chief Minister Abdul Qudous Bizenjo is scheduled for a final consultation with the opposition leader, aiming to reach a consensus on the appointment of the caretaker Chief Minister.

Earlier today, Outgoing Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Leader of the Opposition in the now-dissolved National Assembly, Raja Riaz, reached an agreement to nominate Senator Anwarul Haq Kakar for the role of caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan.
