ISLAMABAD: Amid talks between the ruling coalition and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the government plans to present the federal budget 2023-24 in Parliament on June 9 or 10.
According to a private news channel citing sources in the Ministry of Finance, the government would be convening crucial meetings relating to the federal budget. The series of meetings will start with the Annual Plan Coordination Committee in mid-May.
The committee will prepare the outline of the development budget. The meeting of the National Economic Council, under the chair of Prime Minister Mohammad Shehbaz Sharif, regarding the annual federal budget will be held in the first week of June.
Local media reported that while preparing the federal budget, the government will make efforts to meet the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) conditions.
PTI expresses reservations over govt’s budget plans
The budget has been under discussion for the last few days since PTI raised concerns regarding what kind of annual budget will be presented by the PDM if the National Assembly (NA) is not dissolved early.
In a tweet, PTI leader Hammad Azhar said: “The budget for the upcoming fiscal year must be devised sensibly and in consultation with the multilateral.”
He wrote: “Finance Minister Ishaq Dar must stop playing games with the economy. He has already inflicted huge damage. The budget for the upcoming fiscal year must be devised carefully and in consultation with the multilateral.”
